RealNetworks, one of the many fingers
were dipped into the cake that is Scrabble, has launched an online
version of Scrabble for social networking site Facebook. This new twist
is just one of many in the saga that is Facebook-Scrabble-Scrabulous.
Scrabulous, the insanely popular, not yet approved by
the full online version of Scrabble, was a great success in Facebook,
with more than 600000 users. Unfortunately, that the popularity drew
the wrath of Hasbro and Mattel, control of parts of Scrabble, and that
sent their Gaggle of lawyers to close the application.
The public outrage was immediate, strong and prolonged,
to the extent that RealNetworks, the company that controls the
electronic rights to Scrabble, pledged to save Scrabulous. But now,
with the introduction of a completely separate, however, authorized
version of Scrabble (aptly named "Scrabble Mattel "), it looks as if
they are headed in another direction.
So far, response to user Scrabble Mattel Hasna 't been
overwhelmingly negative or positive. Some say that 's slow to load,
others who ' s an excellent application. The main complaint is that the
game does not accurately reflect the official Scrabble dictionary, and
seems to lose commonly used does not officially sanctioned, ie "zen. "
One more thing: because that Mattel worked this
agreement, and that don 't own the rights to Scrabble in the U.S. ('s
Hasbro ' s domain), 's only available to users outside the U.S. and
Canada.
